11:00 AM Value of Distribution
Dr. Barry Lawrence, Director, Supply Chain Systems Lab, Texas A&M University
Supply Chain Management (SCM) has challenged all members of the supply chain to demonstrate their value to the target audience: the end user. Under SCM, the end user is in control of the entire chain directing all activities at serving their needs. This reorganization has caused an evaluation of the contribution of every function performed by every member of the supply chain. While few question the importance of distribution, the role of distributors themselves has been questioned in light of possible disintermediation in favor of "infomediaries" (as the dot coms were called) or shortened supply chains like manufacturer direct or third party enabled (3PLs or contract manufacturing) scenarios. This presentation will discuss the significance of distribution and will provide a methodology for understanding and determining the distributor’s value.
12:00 PM Luncheon
1:00 PM Inventory Management
Dr. Barry Lawrence, Director, Supply Chain Systems Lab, Texas A&M University
One of the key success factors in distribution management is to utilize assets effectively while maximizing customer service and profitability. Poor asset management will lead to cost structures the market will not support and poor customer service will lead to lost sales and ultimately declining market share. It is therefore critical that distributors and manufacturers maintain an asset base that exceeds reasonable customer expectations while maintaining profitability for the firm. Designing an inventory management system whereby your company can meet/exceed customer expectations while minimizing inventory is critical. Powerful inventory optimization tools include Inventory stratification (also knows as ABC classification), optimal forecasting methodologies, efficient re-order point setting, and an effective purchasing system.

Building a Winning Sales Team Through Leadership, Process & Motivation
Debra Voigt Swann, Affiliate, CustomerCentric Selling®
Let’s pretend you’re the head coach of a college football team. Would you take a group of athletes, even very talented ones, throw them out onto the field, and simply tell them to "get out there and win?" Of course not! Then why do so many companies take a group of sales people, throw them out into the field, and simply tell them to "get out there and sell?" Perhaps that’s why, according to the 2004 Sales Effectiveness Survey from CSO Insights, more than 50% of sales people aren’t meeting quota, which is the poorest performance in 10 years. Building a team of winners requires leadership, process, and motivation. We invite you to participate in this workshop to learn how a "best practices" sales process can arm your sales leaders and reps with all that is required to win.
12:00 PM Luncheon

He will also give strategies to help dealers be successful selling in a no-growth industry and to no-growth companies. Jim will describe several selling tools developed by IFS that vendors who have worked closely with IFS have found to be very successful in helping get sales
2:00 PM Challenges Facing Distributors on the Way to Web-Enablement: Lessons Learned from the Trenches
Scott Fisher, President, Fisher Towne & Associates
