Color theory and perception are covered, including color
reproduction on press, RGB to CMYK issues, and proofing

2:00 pm Black-and-White Scanning Lab and Color Scanning & The Color
Reproduction Process Lab Labs introduce attendees to black-and-white scanning and image manipulation using electronic prepress software. They also explain scanning for good color reproduction plus scanner technologies and scanner advantages and limitations

Attendees learn about press configurations plus the theory of
offset lithography and inking systems, dampening systems, sheet
control, and components such as blankets and rollers

10:15 am The Printing Press/Binding and Finishing, continued
12:00 noon Lunch
1:00 pm Lithographic Press and Bindery and Finishing demonstrations
Attendees see work printed on press, including how plates are mounted and a make-ready is accomplished. Operation of a press console is demonstrated. Bindery and finishing equipment is also demonstrated and shown in operation

Conventional/Digital Image Assembly, Proofing, Platemaking Lab, On-Demand Printing Lab, and Paper and Ink Lab
Attendees take part in all three labs, learning about and gaining hands-on experience with:

  1. Traditional platemaking as well as Computer-to-Plate (CTP) applications,
  2. Digital presses and imaging devices and the capabilities this technology has for variable data output, and
  3. Key concepts pertaining to ink and paper properties, manufacture, and testing

The methods printers use to
estimate jobs, and the insights that
this offers into alternate printer
workflows and costs are explained
and discussed. Estimating functions
link to purchasing functions, and
this segment brings together
printing and imaging technology
with printing and imaging profits
and business management
