made selection of the new PlateRite 8000 thermal plate recorder from Screen
(USA) an obvious product addition for Portland, Oregon-headquartered Litho
Development and Research (LDR). The PlateRite 8000 is one of the fastest
thermal plate recorders available, and graphic arts dealer LDR has made
it possible for it to be directly driven with its Fusion DFE Digital Front
End. Remarkably fast, open and scalable, Fusion DFE also provides post-RIP
imposition of single pages. The PlateRite 8000 also provides a large number
of resolution options and a larger format size to better accommodate Mitsubishi,
Komori and Toshiba presses. In addition to the 2 LDR California installations: Far West Graphics
in San Francisco is installing the PlateRite 8000 and Fusion DFE, and
Galaxy Printing in San Jose is completing installation of a PlateRite
8000 with Screen's Taiga-SPACE workflow system. , Other installations
are planned for the western US. A Closer Look At The PlateRite 8000 The PlateRite 8000 has undergone extensive testing, which revealed superior
CTP quality and resolutions up to 4,000 dpi with crisp round dots. PlateRite
images 12 plates an hour at 2,400 dpi, and uses non pre-bake plates from
Fuji, Agfa and Kodak. It supports a maximum plate size of 37" x 45.6"
and a minimum plate size of 21.6" x 25.6" for greater imaging
flexibility. The PlateRite 8000 has many outstanding features. The standard plate
loading mechanism for PlateRite is semi-automatic, but can be upgraded
to automatic. It can expose thermal plates sensitive to 830 nm infrared
light, hence daylight operation is possible. Options include an in-line punch system and connection to an in-line processor. The manual plate loading mechanism can also be upgraded with a 100-plate feed cassette that includes automatic Interleaf removal as a standard feature. An optional multi-cassette will be available later this year.
