PrintNation.com Receives $5.75 Million in First-Round Funding: U.S. Venture Partners, Venrock Invest in Printing Industry Supersite

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Oct. 13: PrintNation.com -- an e-commerce supersite for commercial printers -- today announced it has received $5.75 million in first-round venture capital funding from U.S. Venture Partners and Venrock Associates.
The successful first round of funding reflects PrintNation.com's strong position to become the primary on-line resource for the $104 billion commercial printing industry. Scheduled to be introduced this fall, the one-stop supersite will offer a broad array of printing supplies, equipment, professional resources and services to meet printers' every need.

The business-to-business e-commerce market will reach $1.5 trillion by 2004, according to Goldman Sachs. Commercial printing -- the 4th largest U.S. industry -- is well-poised to represent a significant portion of this market share, according to PrintNation.com research.

By targeting smaller-volume commercial printers -- two-thirds of printing shops have fewer than 10 employees -- PrintNation.com is prepared to serve a market well-positioned to jump on the online buying bandwagon. More than ninety percent of the 70,000 commercial printing establishments in the U.S. are already regularly online, making online supply ordering and use of site resources a natural move.

Jason Green, General Partner at U.S. Venture Partners, the lead investor, believes PrintNation.com has found a vertical market that has been greatly underserved.
``The printing industry contributes about 1.5 percent to this country's gross national product, yet it really hasn't been served well by the Internet,'' Green explained. ``PrintNation.com is expertly putting together a package of e-commerce services that will appeal to all facets of the printing industry.''

Ray Rothrock, General Partner at Venture Associates, also sees great potential in PrintNation.com's vertical business-to-business e-commerce play. ``The printing industry is a huge market crying for revolution, and it is exciting for Venrock to be part of a new venture serving that industry,'' said Rothrock. ``PrintNation.com is clearly moving in the right direction and has all the criteria for success.'' ``Both U.S. Venture Partners and Venrock Associates have extensive investments in other Internet-based and high-tech companies, including e-commerce businesses. Their investments in PrintNation.com confirms our belief that we will soon become one of the printing industry's most valuable resources,'' said Tony Seba, PrintNation.com President and CEO.
