SCITEX EXPANDS LOTEM 800V PLATESETTER LINE, SETTING NEW CTP PRODUCTIVITY AND QUALITY STANDARDS
BEDFORD, MA -- November 16, 1999: Scitex Corporation Ltd. today announced a major expansion of the Lotem 800V(tm) platesetter line, encompassing several enhancements and options that boost productivity to exceptional levels.

The Lotem 800V2(tm) platesetter, an enhanced version of the acclaimed Lotem 800V system, offers a superior productivity solution ideal for high volume printers. With its 48-beam laser head, the Lotem 800V2 platesetter is capable of imaging up to 16 press-ready plates per hour (for plates 40.5 in/1030 mm wide with a sensitivity of 180 mj/sq.cm), making it the most productive 8-up CTP system in the market today.
Like the Lotem 800V, the entire platemaking process is fully automatic and requires no human intervention. Productivity is further enhanced by a customized in-line punch, which automatically delivers accurate, repeatable notches for reduced make-ready time and perfect register on press. Enhanced quality is provided by the new Scitex Turbo Screening(tm) technology, which is an integral part of the Lotem 800V2 and provides an ultra-crisp dot shape, enhanced detail and a highly predictable dot gain.
Lotem 800V2 enjoys the superiority of the award-winning Brisque Extreme(tm) digital front end with unique CTP functionality and element-independent imposition. The Scitex workflow provides maximum flexibility throughout the production process, while maintaining the predictability of the RIP-Once workflow.
In addition to its industry-standard IrisPRINT(tm) continuous tone contract proofing family, Scitex introduces the Lotem Proof(tm), an 8-up, halftone proofer using Lotem technology. Since the Lotem Proof and Lotem 800V use the same RIPed data, screening and imaging head for both proofs and plates, exact compatibility between the two media is guaranteed. Lotem Proof uses thermal technology, imaging on Kodak proofing material. This results in a proof containing a real halftone dot structure, on the same stock that will be used for the final printing job.
The optional Dual Loading Cassette significantly enhances the productivity and flexibility of the Lotem 800V family by enabling frequent plate size changes with no need to replace cassettes. Capable of holding two different plate sizes concurrently, the Dual Loading Cassette is ideal when a new or rush job requires plates of a different size, and for fast remakes of previous jobs. Requiring a minimal investment and small floor space, this is the most economical and convenient cassette loader on the market today.
The Lotem Link(tm) configuration, offered with the full Lotem product
line, provides an easy transition for customers who work in non-Scitex
or mixed environments and wish to enjoy the high quality and productivity
provided by the Lotem devices. Connected to such front ends as Rampage,
PCC or Barco, the Lotem Link configuration enables a smooth and seamless
integration into existing workflows, while offering full automation, variable
resolution and other Lotem advantages.

The Printing Out's and In's...
Washington, DC – November 18, 1999: Where print is bought and where
print actually gets printed are often quite different. Cost of capital,
land, equipment, plus the ability to find employees, are all intertwined
and create some interesting industry facts:
-- The biggest "exporters" of commercial print are New Jersey
(28% of their net production), Illinois (27%), and Pennsylvania (26%);
-- The biggest importers of print are Florida (44%), New York (32%) and
California at (13%).
The nature of what is printed drives the shape of the industry. New York's big publishing customers make the Midwest's heatset plants burn with activity. Florida's huge travel industry and growing small publishing business keeps printers in many states anxious to make those winter sales calls in the Sunshine State. But if you sell to creative and print marketplaces, it is essential to balance your sales coverage with the right resources. The data show that if you sell to printers, you allocate your coverage in one way... and if your sales are to the creative and publishing markets, your staffing may be totally different.
