RIT’s Printing Application Lab Announces New
Indigo Certification Program
Richester, NY – January 4, 2000: In partnership with Indigo, NV,
Rochester Institute of Technology’s Printing Applications Laboratory,
a unit of the Center for Integrated Manufacturing Studies, has initiated
an Indigo Certification Program to provide standardized testing procedures
for sheet-fed and roll-fed substrates in Indigo’s Digital Offset
Color presses. The new Indigo Certification Program encompasses substrate
certification and substrate and ink development. The certification process
examines substrates for runnability, ink-transferability, blanket compatibility,
and ink-substrate interaction as reflected in ink fixability and abrasability.
The process also ensures the substrate can be used in duplex and collation
modes. When the certification process is complete, the substrate’s
compatibility is mapped, allowing users to decide whether the substrate
meets their needs. Substrates that meet standard performance criteria
will be certified to bear a distinctive Indigo Certification Program logo
and unique reference number.
A value-added service for Indigo users unique to RIT’s program is ink-mixing capability. Special color inks can be customer mixed to match samples provided by the customer. The customer will provide tyhe substrate used with the custom ink.
In addition, users and substrate suppliers will benefit from a "hotline"
and website which will provide information related to certified substrates
and their availability.
