"gigaflops"... From what TrendWatch authors see, the G4 is not only one of the most muscular desktop computers on the planet, but is also priced right for the creative markets. When combined with Apple's new O/S, this machine helps solve both productivity and employee issues. Designers need more computer processing power just to keep up with the increasingly robust files they create -- especially since their work now includes rich content and streaming media for web pages along with many other types of output (not just print anymore). And designers do love to have the hottest workstations, which makes the G4 a tool shop-owners can use to keep those hard to find employees around in today's tight labor market. Even though the "think fast, work fast, go fast, be fast" stuff may NOT be your thing, or you could care less about how many gigaflops G4s can process, the creative world is definitely one where image and speed matter. With more jobs starting and staying in digital formats, and where skill and employee shortages make productivity more important than before, adding or upgrading to fast computers may just be the first step. Computer workstations are the equipment backbone of most creative operations and you may be able to ride this power wave successfully too. We’re in a new world where powerful productivity tools can mean the difference between keeping and losing employees. Can you tune up your surfboard and catch this wave? The bottom line is that while it sounds simple, deployment of cross media projects require solid strategic media development before they stand a chance of working. This puts creative professionals in the boardroom whether they want it or not, and clients need them there whether they want to admit it or not. And if you’re a supplier in this area, your products must thrive in a world of compression, color managing, image and image-element archiving, assembling scaled designs and handling output requirements with intuitive ease. Gee, sounds like a computer-intensive workflow and asset management opportunity, huh? But only if you know where, when, and how the markets will develop. Contact Dr. Joseph Webb or James R.
