Bidding off more than you can chew?
According to "TrendWatch Design & Production Survey #8--Winter 2000," Internet mavens have crowed about bidding all kinds of services in the business-to-business space, and buying print services via the Internet is often portrayed as a hot new service, but creative professionals don't seem to be as intrigued.

Only 6% of the creatives who responded to a recent TrendWatch survey say they currently bid for print services on the Internet and 41% say they won't do this in the future. Creative shops use the Internet heavily for many other services such as buying stock photography and promoting themselves to their clients. Will on-line print services be able to win over these creative professionals?

This is an important finding since it means the jury is still out on this one! We don't know yet if on-line print bidding services will win the hearts and minds of print buyers. However, we do know for certain that the Internet is starting to restructure print buying relationships by supplying information and gateways for production workflows. If your company has no Internet strategy, no matter how big or small you are, you risk being disconnected from your customers.
