JOURNAL Printed at 17 sites throughout the U.S., WSJ is the largest daily newspaper in the United States, with a circulation of 1.7 million copies. The Dolev 4newsV XL imagesetters are being installed at these print sites with completion forecasted for mid-year 2000. The devices will replace dated film imaging equipment and will help WSJ achieve its goal of providing the highest-quality color to its readers. The Dolev 4newsV XL is a custom-designed internal drum imagesetter that outputs more than 50 broadsheet newspaper pages or separations per hour. The 56 devices to be installed at the Dow Jones sites were manufactured with a customized punch configuration compatible with existing plate-exposure systems at those sites. In addition, a CreoScitex application will provide the interface between the Dow Jones page-distribution system and the imagesetters, creating an automated workflow for imaging the newspaper pages broadcast to the remote print sites. "CreoScitex was able tailor the imagesetters to the needs of Dow Jones' multiple press facilities, which became a key factor in the company's decision to choose the Dolev 4newsV XL," said Paul Willis, Industry Marketing Manager for Publishing at CreoScitex. "We worked together within their color quality criteria to build the best solution. As a result, our device fits easily into the existing production infrastructure for the Wall Street Journal."
