FOR KODAK POLYCHROME GRAPHICS AT GRAPH EXPO 2000

Norwalk, Connecticut, USA – As promised, the InterTech Award winning Kodak Approval XP led the lineup of digital proofing technologies at Graph Expo 2000. It also led to a very successful show for Kodak Polychrome Graphics. The industry leader confirms sales of close to 40 Approval systems and the signing of major new consumable contracts.
"When it comes to digital proofing, Approval XP systems with Recipe Color software stand alone and the marketplace is proving it," says Andrew Copley, president of Kodak Polychrome Graphics, United States and Canada Region. "Approval is the only digital proofing system that can literally reproduce millions of spot colors without the need for additional donors. The technology is unsurpassed and of great benefit to the industry."
Sales and interest in the rest of Kodak Polychrome Graphics’ industry leading portfolio were also robust. "Strong customer interest was documented at every product area in our 4,000-sq. ft. booth," notes Copley. "Visitors showed a great deal of interest in our thermal plate solutions including our new Compact Thermal Processing System, CTP1, and ProTherm P3000 no preheat plate. Our DryView film and conventional plates also commanded a lot of interest. The booth was crowded and people were there to buy."
The Kodak Polychrome Graphics logo was prominently displayed throughout the show. As attendees registered for Graph Expo, they were given a Kodak Polychrome Graphics-labeled lanyard (badge-holder) along with their exhibit pass. Over 30,000 lanyards were distributed resulting in the Kodak Polychrome Graphics’ logo hanging around almost everyone's neck.
Graph Expo marked the first North American showing of Recipe Color since it captured a 2000 Graphic Arts Technical Foundation InterTech Award in late July. At the show, Kodak Polychrome Graphics announced that the Approval XP system with Recipe Color software achieved Pantone Calibrated™ certification from Pantone Incorporated.
In addition to Recipe Color Pantone certification, Kodak Polychrome Graphics made a number of other noteworthy announcements and several product innovations made their North American debut at Graph Expo. They include:
- A strategic distribution agreement that will see GraphLine, Inc. have
responsibility for the marketing, distribution and service support of
Kodak Polychrome Graphics "Growth Advantage" program, for
dealers that specialize in serving the needs of small to medium-size
printers in the United States. Additionally, GraphLine is authorized
to market certain Kodak Polychrome Graphics products through a previously
agreed upon GraphLine dealer network.
- The full commercialization of Kodak Approval Digital Proofing Media,
Type 2. Approval Type 2 media enables a wide range of proofing-enabled
computer to plate writers to provide the time proven quality of Kodak
Approval proofs. Among these devices are: CreoScitex Trendsetter Spectrum,
CreoScitex Lotem Proof, ECRM Desert Cat, and the Heidelberg Trendsetter.
Over 30 customers in the United States and Canada are already using
Approval Type 2 media successfully in their operations. Approval Type
2 media creates real halftone dots on the intended printing stock, enabling
printers to match the proof from Approval Type 2 media to the final
printed sheet.
- The introduction of SDE2+, the next generation two-sided plate for
small format printing. SDE2+ is a negative working, two-sided conventional
plate with a fast exposing, hybrid coating that is durable and scratch
resistant. An exceptionally smooth substrate also improves ink and water
balance. SDE2+ is ideally suited for the duplicator and small sheetfed
market segments.
- A new agreement that will see Tech Services International, L.P., become
the exclusive logistics provider for Kodak Polychrome Graphics replacement
parts inventory.
- The debut of the "all in one" Compact Thermal Processing
System, CTP1, designed for the small to medium-sized commercial printer.
CTP1 is an integrated equipment and chemistry system consisting of a
preheating module, a state of the art thermal plate processor, and an
optional post-baking rinse gum unit (the "Quick Bake"). Amazingly,
the total length of the CTP1 System is less than 10 feet. The system
requires 75% less floor space, cuts chemistry consumption by 40% and
reduces electricity usage by 80%, thereby opening thermal CtP adoption
to a wider audience.
- An announcement of mutual accreditation of the PlateJet with T-Wave technology platesetter in support of Kodak Polychrome Graphics popular Thermal Printing Plate/830 by Kodak Polychrome Graphics and Gretag Cymbolic Sciences of Richmond, British Columbia. The PlateJet Emerald is an entry-level thermal CtP device that delivers the benefits of thermal CtP to small and medium-size printers. The internal drum design provides high quality, high resolution 830nm thermal imaging at an affordable price.
