get them posted. October 2 Publish magazine today presented the winners of its 1997 Impact Awards for innovation in the field of electronic publishing. Included were 24 individual citations for products, companies and technologies that will have dramatic impact on the way graphic arts professionals work both now and in the future. Each year the editors at Publish, after reviewing hundreds of products and services, select those few that they consider most outstanding in the field. In 1997, the following NAGASA members were named as winners: Scitex America for Scitex EverSmart: instead of moving the lens along one path, the EverSmart moves the scanning head in two directions. Barco, Inc. for Barco Personal Calibrator: bundled with Barco's CalibratorTalk 4.05 calibration software that lets publishers calibrate and profile the PCD with almost any industry-standard spectrophotometer or colorimeter. GretagMacbeth for Spectrolino: the publishing worldís first affordable handheld spectrophotometer, the Spectrolino raises the bar on in-house color management and makes it available to a large group of mid-sized design and prepress houses. Agfa Division of Bayer Corporation for Agfa Apogee: This set of PDF workflow tools should go a long way to increasing PDF's acceptance for print-based publishing. With job ticketing, RIP, and output management components, Apogee provides the critical parts of a PDF-based prepress operation. Imation for Imation Matchprint Laser Proofs: Eases the transition to a direct-to-plate operation by addressing one of the main sticking points: how do you proof? By using the same RIP and same marking engine as your plates, Imation has offered the only way to get the true dot-for-dot proof most publishers are used to. Presstek for PEARLgold: Presstek's totally process-free PEARLgold thermal offset printing plate - the first such plate on the market - achieves a new milestone in the pursuit of the Holy Grail of CTP publishing.
