Economy and Print Sales Growth Strongest in Decades, Reports NAPL

The economy's best performance in three decades is expected to continue, resulting in printing sales growth over 9.0 percent in 1998, reports the NAPL Printing Business Report. The quarterly Printing Business Report of theNational Association of Printers & Lithographers employs an exclusive printing model of over 50 business indicators along with monthly surveys of over 500 printers. The latest report shows that much of this year's sales growth (up 6.4% for the second quarter) has been real rather than inflationary. NAPL notes that this demonstrates an upturn in business rather than cost pass-alongs. An increase in production hours worked - the best measure of print's real growth - convirms the upturn.
