located throughout North America. With a program developed by dealer members
and open only to dealers, here¹s your chance to get together with peers
to learn, share, and network about issues affecting your dealership. Graph
Expo 99 begins Sunday, October 17 and runs through Wednesday, October
20, making this one-day event a cost-effective and value-added preliminary
event. Space is limited; register today!
| The first 15 registrants receive a free copy of DRUPA
2000: An Invitation to Your Future. Drawing on comments by industry
leaders, this 20-minute videotape introduces DRUPA 2000 and what it

Service and the Dealership
Larry Murray, President, Interface Network, leads us in an
interactive and roll-up-your-sleeves discussion on successfully
selling and managing service at a dealership. Topics include:
- Selling service, including use of the NAGASA Model Service
contract
- Servicing equipment other than equipment you sell, including
a discussion on using independent contractors to outsource/handle
service, including contract arrangements, parts sales, payment
terms, and other factors that can make this arrangement
mutually beneficial
- Establishing service rates
- Finding/attracting, motivating, and retaining qualified
service people, including compensation, benefits packages,
and intangibles like being tied into the organization
- Preventing a departing technician from hurting business
(through non-competes, etc.)

Owner-Managed Dealer Forum
Topic A: Dealer-to-Dealer Product
Members have suggested we explore a collaboration among dealers
whereby we purchase needed products from one another to meet
short-term, and in some cases longer-term, customer needs. As
proposed, this idea is not an effort to set up a buying group
or group purchasing. Instead, it’s an idea to explore a
collaboration that will help each dealer help its customer base
when product shortages and other inventory issues arise. We’ll
discuss the idea, how it might work, and possible next steps.
Topic B: Dealer/Manufacturer Action Teams
Many dealers have expressed the need for revival of the Line
Committee concept, suggesting in parallel that we upgrade the
name to reflect a goal of dealers and manufacturer working towards
mutually beneficial process improvement. In this session we’ll
confirm the value of these groups and possibly identify needed
Teams, team leaders, and next steps.
Topic C: Dealer Certification
Several members have proposed that NAGASA begin certifying dealers
as a way of reinforcing the value-added role of dealers to customers.
We’ll discuss the background to this idea, the value of
pursuing certification, and the suggested methodology.

| About the Owner-Managed Dealer Network NAGASA established
the Owner-Managed Dealer Network in 1998 to address the needs
of an important group of people within the Channel: Single-location,
privately owned dealerships focusing on traditional equipment
and supplies with annual sales of less than $15 million. Our
focus is the exchange of ideas and information important to
Network members. Chaired by Bruce deRepentigny, President of
TBJ Graphics Arts in Coventry, Rhode Island, membership in the
Network is extended without charge to all NAGASA and PESDA owner-managed
dealer members. Your inquiry is invited. |
