NAGASA STUDY SHOWS DEALERS HAVE EXTENSIVE COMPUTER AND ELECTRONICS CAPABILITIES.

Washington, DC, March 1996 -NAGASA, the North American Graphic Arts Suppliers Association, has announced the immediate availability of a comprehensive study of computers and electronics at North American graphic communications dealers. The study, which was completed in early 1996 by Mason Consulting, contains comprehensive information regarding the sale of technology products through dealers. The study report includes data from more than 50 dealers, operating 148 outlets, employing nearly 3000 workers, and representing more than $1.83 billion in sales. NAGASA president and CEO David Steinhardt, in making the announcement, said: "The study should be of interest to manufacturers, as well as graphic arts dealers now offering computers and electronics and those considering doing so. NAGASA, in making this extremely topical information available to the industry, is providing a service to both dealers and manufacturers. The study report includes details regarding dealer staffing, compensation, service practices, and products offered. It also contains dealers' projections of the future of direct imaging plates and film." Nonmembers may purchase the NAGASA Computer and Electronics Survey from NAGASA for $685. Substantial discounts are offered to NAGASA members.

According to the study, US graphic arts dealers have extensive resources to bring imaging and other technologies to the printing industry. The study shows that dealers routinely offer software, electronics hardware, training, help desk services and other necessary products and services to the industry. Also detailed are dealers' relationships with manufacturers and importers, as well as the availability of applications experts to assist clients in hardware and software specifications.

NAGASA-the North American Graphic Arts Suppliers Association-is the world's largest trade association representing graphic communications dealers, distributors and the manufacturers whose products they sell. Collectively, NAGASA dealer members sell more than $2 billion of graphic communications equipment, supplies, systems, software and service each year. The association is an open, noncommercial, noncompetitive forum in which members can discuss issues critical to their individual businesses and the effectiveness of the marketing channel. With nearly 350 members, NAGASA produces programs for dealers and manufacturers which build stronger alliances and streamline costs and operations. Manufacturers are encouraged by the organization to sell products through the graphic communications dealer channel. In addition, the association produces technical and business performance information through standards, statistical, educational and publishing services.
