NAGASA PRESENTS 1997 AWARDS
TO INDUSTRY LEADERS
Washington, DC, February 1998 -- NAGASA, the North American Graphic Arts Suppliers Association, honored several prominent graphic communications industry leaders at an awards banquet held during its recent annual meeting.
The association's Mullan award -- presented annually to individuals who best exemplify a standard of excellence in the channel -- was given to John W. Dreyer, Chairman and CEO of the Pitman Company, a major graphic arts dealer based in Totowa, NJ. Dreyer was honored for his distinguished service to the industry and to graphic arts distribution in particular.
In presenting the award, NAGASA president and CEO David J. Steinhardt commented: "John Dreyer exemplifies the very nature of the graphic arts channel. For more than 20 years, John has led the Pitman company in growth to its present position as one of the major forces in the industry. Under his leadership, Pitman sales have quadrupled. Moreover, he has literally changed the face of Pitman and the industry -- from one of primarily consumables distribution, to one of high technology counsel and value added services for the flexo and packaging industries as well as traditional lithography. NAGASA is pleased to honor one of the guiding lights of the industry."
The association's Favat award, given for exemplary service to NAGASA, was presented to Gil Carrillo, vice president and general manager of the BESCO San Antonio branch. Carrillo, a NAGASA director from 1995 to 1996, was recognized for his efforts in extending the reach of NAGASA into Latin America, as well as his leadership in directing the NAGASA diversity initiative. Said Brian Kroot, NAGASA chair: "Gil Carrillo has been instrumental in developing a NAGASA presence across North America, and has been especially influential in spreading NAGASA’s influence into Latin America. He serves as the association’s representative to ANIDIGRAF -- the Mexican graphic organization."
The association also presented, for the third time, its Innovator Award, to recognize innovative practices in the graphic communications distribution channel. The Innovator Awards were presented to Standard Finishing Systems, a division of Standard Duplicating Machines Corporation of Andover, MA, and to J. E. Halliday Sales of Huntington Beach, CA. Standard Duplicating Machines was honored for its consistent and ongoing development of superior products for the reprographics industry, as well as its unflagging dedication to the dealer channel. J. E. Halliday Sales was recognized for its leadership in bringing new printing technologies to customers in its southern California market.
