NAGASA RELEASES 1996 FINANCIAL Washington, DC, August 1996 - NAGASA, the North American Graphic Arts Suppliers Association, has released its annual study of financial ratios among dealers and value added resellers of graphic arts supplies and equipment. David J. Steinhardt, NAGASA President/CEO, announced the completion of the study, the eleventh in an annual series. The survey was conducted and the data analyzed by Donlin & Stevens, a CPA firm in Highland Heights, Kentucky. The NAGASA 1996 Financial Ratios Study contains data from 59 graphic arts dealers and value added resellers who reported on operations in 1995. Dealers responding to the NAGASA survey reported total 1995 sales of nearly $1.2 billion and average sales of more than $20 million. Responding dealers reported nearly constant net profits before taxes of 1.78% during 1995, compared with 1.78%. Gross profits declined slightly, from 18.17% in 1994 to 17.67% in 1995. Dealers with sales exceeding $10 million increased their gross margin from 15.72% in 1994 to 16.83% in 1995, while those with sales of less than $10 million saw gross margins hold essentially steady from 22.61% in 1994 to 22.04% in 1995. Equipment dealers increased their profitability overall during 1995, but that of supplies dealers declined. Commenting on the results of the 1995 NAGASA Financial Ratios Survey, NAGASA Board Chair Richard M. Blair said: "The continued health and success of the dealer channel demonstrates the valuable role played by graphic arts dealers and value added resellers in the efficiency and viability of the North American printing industry." The NAGASA 1994 Financial Ratios Survey is furnished free of charge to participating graphic arts dealers. NAGASA dealer members who did not participate may purchase the survey for $345, while NAGASA manufacturer members may purchase it for $265. The survey is available to nonmembers for $685.
