NEW NAGASA STUDY DETAILS SERVICE PRACTICES OF NORTH AMERICAN DEALERS Washington, DC, August 1997 - NAGASA - the North American Graphic Arts Suppliers Association - has announced the immediate availability of a comprehensive study of service practices at North American graphic arts dealers. The study - one of an ongoing statistical series documenting the distribution channel - was completed in mid-1997 by Mason Consulting Inc. The study contains detailed information regarding the composition and compensation of dealer service organizations, and includes data from 40 dealers in the United States and Canada. The dealers responding to the study operate 122 outlets, and had 1996 sales averaging $18.9 million per dealership or $6.2 million per outlet. Service revenues averaged $639,571 per dealership, or $209,695 per outlet, and constituted 9.17 percent of total sales revenues of the dealers. The dealers indicated average profit margins on overall parts and service business of 38.4 percent, up slightly from the 35.3 percent reported when the survey was last done in 1994. In addition to general information about dealer service practices, the report documents service personnel compensation at dealers, as well as the rates dealers charge for service on different types of graphic arts equipment. David J. Steinhardt, president and CEO of NAGASA, commented regarding the report: "The North American dealer channel today is more sophisticated than in the past. Not only do dealers sell and service complex digital equipment, they are beginning to focus on service as a key element of their overall business plan. Among larger dealers especially, service is seen as one of the elements of a strategy to replace declining film sales with a more holistic means of servicing printers and trade shops." The study, which should be useful to dealers, manufacturers and printing organizations, is available from NAGASA at 202-328-8441. The study is priced at $90 for members and $150 for nonmembers. NAGASA - the North American Graphic Arts Suppliers Association - is the world's largest trade association of dealers, resellers, distributors, and manufacturers serving the graphic arts, printing and imaging industries. NAGASA members sell more than $4 billion of equipment, supplies, systems, software, paper and service annually. NAGASA is dedicated to strengthening distribution channel alliances, streamlining costs and operations, and improving the business performance of its more than 350 members.
