We are in the midst of a revolution. Every day, technological advances
are made which affect how we live, work, and communicate. The microprocessor
-whcih started on the drawing board only twenty-five years ago and was
integrated into the first personal computer just a decade later- has
been at the heart of the change. As its speed increased, its size has decreased,
making it virtually ubiquitous: we find silicon chips everywhere, from our
coffe makers to our automobile dashboards to our web of orbital satellites......
The trend is very clear: the industry is relying more and more on digitally-produced
material, technology is moving far more rapidly than most of us think, and
advances in other areas such as marketing research influence how we will
do business in the future.
