IPEX Hailed As A Success;
NAGASA Exhibits in Europe For The First Time
The September IPEX trade show in Birmingham, England, marked
the first time that NAGASA has participated in a major European
print show. IPEX markets itself to all of Europe, and is second
only to DRUPA in its range of products and number of visitors.
According to show management, IPEX registered 90,000 visitors
from more than 150 countries over nine days. This represents
a 17% increase in attendance compared to the last show, held
in 1993. Of the 121 US exhibitors, several companies exhibited
in sponsored booths promoted by NAGASA and other industry associations,
while others exhibited on their own or with their European agents.
All were looking to create, develop and expand their European
and worldwide activities.
Coordinated through the efforts of Danny Moloney, who heads
up NAGASA's newly created European office, visitors to the NAGASA
stand at IPEX were greeted by experienced industry specialists
whose personal knowledge covered distribution in Western and
Eastern Europe and
the Middle East. NAGASA members exhibiting in conjunction with
the NAGASA stand met with existing and potential customers from
such countries as Australia, India, South Africa and many parts
of Europe. According to Moloney, “NAGASA members exhibiting
at IPEX were very enthusiastic and extremely optimistic about
the number and quality of prospects at the show. Everyone seemed
very positive about the ensuing business potential.”
Also on hand to represent NAGASA and its board of directors
was Kelly VandenBosch of X-Rite, Inc., who worked in the booth
on several occasions, lending his support and encouragement
while at the same time manning his own very busy booth. “Anyone
exhibiting at or attending IPEX can clearly state that there
are great opportunities for U.S. manufacturers looking to export
and for dealers and resellers looking for new and innovative
products to sell into their home market,” Kelly noted.
“NAGASA is positioned to provide support for its members
exporting to and importing from the 50 countries of Europe.
We already have a superb database of firms in the UK and continue
to spread our influence to other nations.”
For the first time, the IPEX show had separate halls dedicated
to digital technology and used printing equipment. Record sales
of equipment were reported by NAGASA members Heidelberg and
Kodak Polychrome Graphics. Word around the aisles was that the
show
fulfilled expectations plus some for the 2,000 or so exhibiting
companies.
Lead products at the show appeared to be a continued digitization
of everything — from color images to electronic messages
— controlling all forms of production. The vast array of
offerings featured showcased new and future trends affecting
and influencing the nature of the print production industry.
Working through its European Satellite sales office in the
United Kingdom, NAGASA regularly responds to inquiries for information
about the vast European
marketplace and its members’ import and export capabilities.
A full report
on the success of the IPEX show will be presented at the next
meetings of the NAGASA Trade Show and International Commerce
Committees, set to take place during Forum 99.
