If you have plans to replace or substantially alter your present computer system, when do you plan to do so?

An article in the November 3, 1997, Business Week said that retail and distribution businesses are vigorously attacking the year 2000 problem. According to the article, in 1997 these businesses will spend 13 percent of their technology budgets to correct the year 2000 problem. In 1998 and 1999, the portion of their budgets for this purpose are estimated at 15 percent and 9.5 percent respectively.

Of the dealers responding to the survey, 26, or 46 percent, indicated plans to change their system between now and the year 2002. On average, the 26 plan to make the change in 1998. See figures 10 and 11.

It is quite likely that some graphic arts dealers will solve their year 2000 problems by simply replacing their old systems with new, 2000 compliant ones. This approach may account for the seemingly large incidence of expected system replacement in the next two years.
