NAGASA Announces New Directors for 1998

Bruce deRepentigny, President, TBJ Graphic Arts Supply. Bruce served under the NGADA founding organization and plans to become a pro-active member of NAGASA. He believes the small dealer is losing its identity within NAGASA as a result of all the mergers and acquisitions and that large dealers and manufacturers seem to have all the headlines and get most of the ink. At the first Owner-Managed Dealer Network meeting held at Print ’97 in Chicago, more than 25 owners in attendance encouraged Bruce to become more involved in a leadership position. In light of all that is happening in the graphic arts industry, Bruce feels that it is most important that the voice of the owner-managed dealers be represented on the board of directors. After all, every graphic arts dealer at one time was owner-managed. He looks forward to working with the dealer community and representing their views to the entire board of directors. Bruce also serves as the chair of the new Owner-Managed Network within NAGASA.

W. Bruce Goodwin, President, Glunz & Jensen Inc. The rapid pace of change in the graphic arts industry requires close cooperation between dealers and suppliers to take advantage of the many new emerging business opportunities. NAGASA has proven to be the most effective forum for improving communication in the dealer/supplier community. Bruce plans to use his industry experience to enhance the work of NAGASA to improve communication and collaboration that will embrace change and increase profitability.

Julius R. Hjulian, President, Texas Type Co. Julius offers his twenty-two years experience bridging domestic and international and manufacturer and dealer. He brings a unique perspective to the board of directors -- providing dual understanding and input for many issues from both the manufacturer and dealer viewpoints. Julius spent twenty-two years with Fortune 200 corporations that marketed through independent dealerships. For the last nine years he has operated as owner of an independent dealership located in a small marketing area. Furthermore, as NAGASA expands its reach in this hemisphere and around the world Julius would like to apply extensive worldwide work experience and provide input and guidance on the future direction of NAGASA for the 21st Century.

Ted Meek, Vice President, Modern Photo Offset Supply. The challenge presented by the consolidation of manufacturers and dealers emphasizes the need to seek a win-win relationship rather than win-lose adversarial confrontations. Ted believes NAGASA can serve as the vehicle providing a forum for achieving this goal in an industry which is presently trying to re-discover stability. Increasing membership and then opening communications on a more frequent basis can help attain progress. Our industry is rapidly changing and Ted sees NAGASA as a necessity to help members find their niche in order to survive into the future.

Christine Miller Reid, Director of Dealer Operations-North America, Polaroid Graphics Imaging. Christine seeks to make NAGASA a vehicle for the building of long lasting alliances. She believes this is based on integrity, commitment, trust, and openness -- translating into true partnership. This past year, Christine served a one-year term on the board of directors and serves as an active member of the NAGASA education committee. Christine would like to see NAGASA enhance its educational programs and seminars and develop collective goals meeting the needs of manufacturers and dealers to make the channel strong and successful.

David Reny, Vice President & Managing Director, Standard Finishing Systems. Since 1910, Standard has successfully distributed its products through a network of independent machine dealers. During his twenty plus years with Standard, David has come to believe that, when it works right, the independent dealer network is the best way to sell and service equipment. Technological innovations, mergers and acquisitions, and new business sophistication occurring in our industry are challenging the very existence of the independent dealer. He still believes in the viability and resilience of the independent dealer channel, but that it needs to be supported with commitment and focus from both sides. Getting more involved with the NAGASA board of directors is one more way David hopes to help make a difference in strengthening the channel.

Joe Thornhill, President, Taylor Impression, Inc. Joe feels that serving on the board of NAGASA is an honor and a privilege. He brings insight about the ever-changing graphic arts market that will benefit new as well as established members having served as a past member of the board. Taylor Impression is rich in experience in the area of equipment sales and service; an area that other companies with the help of NAGASA and its educational programs must embrace to grow. Joe hopes to strengthen NAGASA programs to better serve the independent and equipment dealers.
